“Yagoona is located in the south-west of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The suburb is situated approximately 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) south-west of the Sydney central business district and is in the local government area of the City of Liverpool.
The history of Yagoona can be traced back to when it was first settled in 1809 as part of a land grant to Simeon Pearce. The suburb was originally known as “Pearce’s Farm” and was renamed “Yagoona” in 1927 after an aboriginal word meaning “meeting place”. The first school in the area was opened in 1913 and today, Yagoona is home to a number of schools including Yagoona West Public School, St Therese’s Catholic School and Our Lady of Mercy College.
