“Freshwater is located on the northern beaches of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is one of the most affluent suburbs on the North Shore and is situated next to Manly and Balgowlah. The population was 6,764 at the 2016 census. Freshwater is in the local government area of Pittwater Council.
The first inhabitants of the area were the Cammeraygal people who lived a hunter-gatherer lifestyle. The suburb was named Freshwater by Captain James Cook after he found a freshwater stream while exploring the area in 1770. The first European settlers arrived in the early 19th century and established large estates in the area. Development resumed in the 1890s when small weekend cottages were built.
