“Newtown is located 4 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Sydney. The population was estimated to be 14,521 in 2016.
Newtown was established in 1804 by Robert Campbell, a Scottish migrant and businessman, who named it after Newtown in Scotland. The area was originally forested, but was cleared for farmland.
